Dr José Manuel Fafetine, Assistant professor of Microbiology and Immunology at the Veterinary Faculty, Eduardo Mondlane University, member of ERFAN WG “VBD”
José Manuel Fafetine was born in Maputo, Mozambique and did the primary and secondary education in the same city. After obtaining his degree in Veterinary Medicine from the Eduardo Mondlane University, Mozambique, he obtained his MSc degree in Epidemiology and Tropical Veterinary Medicine from the Free University of Berlin, Germany and his PhD degree from the Faculty of Veterinary Science, University of Pretoria, South Africa. He is assistant professor of Microbiology and Immunology at the Veterinary Faculty, Eduardo Mondlane University and has been also lecturing MSc modules of infectious diseases, epidemiology and laboratory biosafety in the same University. His main research interest is the diagnosis and epidemiology of zoonotic diseases and neglected diseases. In this context he has participated in different teams involved in the research of important veterinary diseases with public health impact, such has rabies, tuberculosis, brucellosis, cystecercosis, Crimean Congo haemorrhagic fever and Rift Valley fever. He is currently leading a research group on epidemiology and molecular diagnosis of viral diseases, including the supervision of undergraduates and postgraduate students, at the Veterinary Faculty and Biotechnology Center of the Eduardo Mondlane University. He is member of the vector and vector borne disease group in the ERFAN.
